As part of B.Ed curriculum we had a five days visit to LVHS  Pothencode,Trivandrum. The five days at school was very helpful and beneficial. Book review ✍📖

BOOK  REVIEW

A book review is a thorough description, critical analysis, and evaluation of the quality, meaning, and significance of a book.

There are two general approaches to reviewing a book:
  1. Descriptive review:  presents the content and structure of a book as objectively as possible, describing essential information about a book's purpose and authority. This is done by stating the perceived aims and purposes of the study, often incorporating passages quoted from the text that highlight key elements of the work. Additionally, there may be some indication of the reading level and anticipated audience.
  2. Critical review:  describes and evaluates the book in relation to accepted literary and historical standards and supports this evaluation with evidence from the text and, in most cases, in contrast to and in comparison with the research of others. It should include a statement about what the author has tried to do, evaluates how well you believe the author has succeeded in meeting the objectives of the study, and presents evidence to support this assessment. For course assignments, most professors will want you to write this type of review.

Now its my turn....✍📖

The National System of Education as conceived by our leaders during the national movement for freedom and as propounded-by Mahatma Gandhi has its genesis in work-based education. Gandhiji was against education leading to the search for white-collared jobs. He was of the opinion that if education is based on socially useful productive work, it would be an instrument for personality development and social transformation.

Socially Useful Productive work has been described by the Ishwarbhai Patel Committee as purposive, meaningful, manual work resulting into either goods or services which are useful to the community. Manual work becomes purposive when it meets the educational requirements.

INGREDIENTS

Khoya / Kova - 1 cup
All purpose flour – 3 tblsp
Sodium bi carbonate (cooking soda) – 1/8 tsp
Elachi/ cardamom – 2
Sugar – 1 & 1/2 cups
Water – 1 & 1/2 cups
Saffron (optional) – Few strands
Rose essence (optional) – 2 drops
Oil/Ghee– As need for deep frying

METHOD

  1. Bring khoya to room temperature if its frozen. Crumble it with your hands and measure it. Take khoya, maida and cooking soda in a mixing bowl. Mix well.
  2. Slowly add some milk to make a smooth dough without any cracks. No need to knead hard, just gather with your hands so that it forms a smooth dough without lumps. Keep aside for 5 mins and make equal sized balls. The balls should be smooth outside, but do not roll so tightly applying pressure. Just roll softly but until smooth.
  3. Meanwhile prepare the sugar syrup with water, sugar, powdered elachi and saffron, bring to boil and boil for 8 minutes to 10 minutes in medium flame.
  4. Mean while you can fry the rolled jamuns. Bring oil hot. Keep in low flame and add the jamuns and keep rolling the jamuns gently with the use of the ladle inside the oil so that it gets evenly cooked and fried to deep golden brown in colour. Fry only few at a time, dont dump the jamuns so many in oil.
  5. Drain in kitchen towel and immediately add it to hot syrup. Let it get soaked well. Add essence lastly if desired.
  6. Let it get soaked well in the syrup for 3 hrs at least and enjoy the soaked, juicy jamuns....🤤🤤
